Magnetic Wristband for DIY

★★★★⯨ 4.5/5 Tools Under £10

A fabric wristband with strong magnets sewn in. You stick screws, nails, drill bits and small fittings to your wrist instead of balancing them on a ladder or losing them in the grass.

✔ Get it if: Anyone who does DIY, flat-pack furniture, or jobs up a ladder. Great if you drop screws constantly.
✖ Skip it if: If you have a pacemaker, keep strong magnets away — check with your doctor first.

👍 What’s good

  • Magnets are strong enough to hold a handful of screws
  • Frees up both hands on a ladder
  • One size fits most wrists
  • Cheap enough to be a no-brainer gift

👎 What’s not

  • Fabric picks up metal filings over time
  • Not useful for brass or plastic fittings (they don't stick)

What it claims to do

It claims to hold your screws, nails and bits securely on your wrist so you never lose a fixing mid-job.

What happened when I tested it

I wore it for a full weekend of jobs: putting up two shelves, fixing a fence panel and assembling a garden bench. It held a dozen screws at once without dropping any, including working above my head on the shelves.

📋 Test notes: Tested over 3 DIY sessions across 2 weekends. Held 12+ screws overhead without drops. Velcro strap still solid after repeated use.

What I liked

Not fumbling in my pocket up a ladder. That alone is worth the money. It also saved a handful of screws from disappearing into the lawn during the fence job.

What I didn’t like

By Sunday it had collected a layer of metal dust that's fiddly to clean off. And obviously it does nothing for brass screws.

Price & value

At under £10 this is excellent value. There are pricier "pro" versions — you don't need them.

Worth it or bin it?

Worth it. It's under a tenner, it works exactly as advertised, and I now wear it for every job. This is the kind of simple, useful product this site exists for.
