Solar Motion Security Light

★★★★ 4/5 Safety & Emergency £20 for two

Stick-up solar lights with motion sensors — no electrician, no wiring, just two screws and done. Tested through a wet British fortnight.

✔ Get it if: Anyone who wants the drive, side gate or bins lit at night without paying for wiring.
✖ Skip it if: If the spot gets no direct sun at all, the battery won't keep up in winter.

👍 What’s good

  • Fitted in 10 minutes with a screwdriver
  • Bright enough to light the whole driveway
  • Survived two weeks of rain without a flicker
  • Motion sensor range is honest — about 5 metres

👎 What’s not

  • Winter performance will drop with weak sun
  • Mounting screws provided are rubbish — use your own

What it claims to do

It claims to be a wire-free, weatherproof security light that charges by day and triggers on motion at night.

What happened when I tested it

Fitted one over the drive and one by the side gate. Two weeks including proper rain. Triggered reliably every evening; brightness held until at least midnight checks.

📋 Test notes: 14 nights, including 5 of heavy rain. Zero failures to trigger. Light output visibly strong to ~5m.

What I liked

The 10-minute install. No electrician, no cables through walls, and it just worked every night since.

What I didn’t like

The included screws chewed instantly — swapped for decent ones. I'm also sceptical about deep winter, and I'll update this review in December.

Price & value

Two for £20 is strong value against £100+ for a wired light plus electrician.

Worth it or bin it?

Worth it. For £20 you get real security lighting with no installation cost. Just accept it may need a sunnier spot come winter.
